Wait, help—I saw the cover and didn’t get it at all—not a typical reaction for me!

The joke is that he’s going into a bookstore and there’s only one tiny shelf of books hidden under a mountain of totes and t-shirts and other non-book merchandise. Which is exactly what happened at my old bookstore after I got kicked out left. I’d been in charge of the store swag, doing just stuff with our name/logo on it, and crazy boss lady decided to fill the front of the store with everything under the sun except books once I wasn’t there to tell her it was a stupid idea. The artist who drew the cover actually designed a tote for the store, so I’m pretty sure it was targeted at them.
